Coopers found in the military service index at the National Archives only three attained the rank of sergeant . According to the service history of the three units represented by these three who attained the rank of sergeant only the 77th Pennsylvania spent any time in Nashville , and they were in or near Nashville for extended periods in 1862 , 1863 , and 1865 . George M . Cooper enrolled late 1861 . He held the ranks of Corporal and Sergeant . Cooper was wounded 25 June 1863 at Liberty Gap , Tennessee , a bullet passing through his right hand . His service in 1864 appears in the records to have light to perhaps off duty . He served in the Veteran Reserve Corps beginning in early 1864 : and mustered out in late 1864 . By his Invalid Army Pension form by the State of Pennsylvania which is signed his George M X Cooper Mark he was discharged a member of Company " F " 77th Pennsylvania Infantry . On a form for Widow's Claim for Pension Delilah Cooper states George M . Cooper died at Chaneysville , Bedford County , Pennsylvania on the 15th of June 1900 of Paralysis from Pensioned causes who was pensioned by clf No 95 . 244 . Carte shows use . J . H .
